Dothraki: Coming to a Store Near You

Living Language Dothraki is going on sale October 7th! And in addition to that, I will be going around talking about the new book in various parts of the country over the next few months. Mark your calendars, if you happen to live near New York City, LA, the Bay Area, Las Vegas, Denver or Kirksville, Missouri. Here’s the schedule at present (all times local; to be updated fairly frequently as new events are confirmed):

SEPTEMBER

  • Truman State University, Kirksville, MO, September 17-18: I’ll be giving two talks hosted by the Linguistics department on September 17th at 4:30 p.m. in the TSU Student Union Building, Georgian Room B, and on September 18th at 7:00 p.m. in Baldwin Hall 176. The former is more linguistics-oriented; the latter more general (though it’s still kind of linguisticky. We’ll see how it goes).
  • Seal Beach Wag n’ Walk, Seal Beach, CA, September 27th: I’ll be hosting a booth at the annual Wag n’ Walk, which is a benefit for the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. Come learn your dog’s true Dothraki name!

OCTOBER

NOVEMBER

  • Colorado College, Colorado Springs, CO, November 10th: I’ll be giving a talk at Colorado College at 7 p.m. (more details to come).
  • The Tattered Cover, Highlands Ranch, CO, November 11: I’ll be doing an event and signing at the Tattered Cover in Highlands Ranch at 7 p.m. (Note: Be sure to note the location, as there are several Tattered Cover stores in the Denver area!)
  • Books, Inc., Mountain View, CA, November 14: I’ll be doing an event and signing at the Books, Inc. in Mountain View at 7 p.m. (Note: Be sure to note the location, as there are several Books, Inc. stores in the Bay Area!)
  • Kepler’s Books, Menlo Park, CA, November 15th: I’ll be a part of a group of other sff authors at Kepler’s Sci-Fi Fantasy Day. It’s going to be from 1-5 p.m. and feature a number of interesting talks and panels. My Dothraki event will be at 2:30 p.m. Please note that this is a ticketed event (tickets are $10 and can be purchased here), but a ticket grants you admission to the entire day’s events.

There are a number of other events I had to leave off because they haven’t been finalized yet, so stay tuned! Doing lots of stuff the next couple months.

Dothras chek!

  1. Athdavrazar, zhey David!

When you get to Las Vegas, or if you get to the bay area, I will certainly come and attend your event, schedule permitting! Otherwise, October 7th is circled in red on my calendar!

  2. Zhey David!

Athdavrazar! When will you be in the Bay Area? Let crownofgold and I know and we can grab ice cream! :)

I am still waiting for my Khal Drogo autographed copy! Must be because my birthday is Monday! ;)

My best to Erin and you!

  3. I see the event in Mountain View on November 14th. I will try and make it, but that is the eve of the biggest studio production of the year, and I will have to pull some strings. The evening timing helps, though!

There is now a new comic-con in Reno at the end of November. That should be interesting, as I have never been to any kind of comic-con before. I am working on a Na’vi cosplay for that event.

  4. Oh wow…I’m co-running the Wikia Fan Forum panel at NYCC for Game of Thrones Wiki, with guests Kristian Nairn and Natalia Tena (I’m an Administrator at GoTWiki and I already live in NYC so they gave me a free pass). But we’re on Thursday at 1:15 pm (and because I have school I’m only showing up that one day, then leaving immediately after the panel to get to class, and not returning).

Will you be around on Thursday?

      1. That depends, what are you asking. Did you want me to attend the panel? To be on the panel? I could potentially do either. I bet Living Language might also be interested in sending some promotional material to you for the panel, depending on the details. What did you have in mind?

        1. Oh…I assumed you’d only be in on Sunday and I wouldn’t be this lucky. Uh…I’m not really in an “authority” to add “new programming guests”, I just figured if you were wandering about the convention floor thumbing through comics, you might want to drop by the panel as a “private citizen” sitting in the front row with the rest of the audience, then put in a word about “hey everybody, buy Living Language Dothraki!” at some point.

I…didn’t want to put you on the spot about this. Yes, if nothing else, if you send some promo material for Living Language Dothraki we’ll point it out to the audience at the panel.

Tell you what, I’ll ask my superiors at Wikia about this…

  5. Reno’s Comic-Con is still seeking panel topics. I wonder if I should submit an idea for something either Avatar/Na’vi, Dothraki, or conlanging in general.

  6. So apparently the plan Season 5 is going for is that the Thenns sound Slavic. I’d have gone with Germanic to match Tormund. Still trying to retroactively figure out what Old Tongue sounds like.

  7. The Dragon Demands.

Interesting.. Since their Magnar was played by a Russian. Do you have a source of that info?
